Surface Processes driving sHifts in platE tectonic Regimes on Earth

SPHERE investigates how climate-driven erosion and sedimentation interact with subduction, mantle convection, and the long-term evolution of plate tectonic regimes.

Connecting the surface and deep Earth

The project examines how erosion–sedimentation feedbacks can influence subduction dynamics, mantle circulation, and the supercontinent cycle. SPHERE combines numerical geodynamic modelling with the experimental tectonics environment at Roma Tre and collaborations with Colorado State University, GFZ Potsdam, and the University of Milano-Bicocca.
